After receiving a degree in Physical Geography at Technical University of Dresden (Germany) Rainer worked at the Universities of Cordoba (Spain) and Kiel (Germany) to deepen his scientific understanding and field work experience on soil monitoring, carbon in soils and matter balances in the agriculture sector. Previous experiences in consulting area were at Perspectives Climate Change where he contributed on international carbon projects and methodologies. Given his strong interest in soil and environmental issues, he is in the final stage of his PhD trajectory about modeling carbon losses from agricultural soils.
Rainer joined the team in 2014. He is mainly responsible for research & development as well as project implementation within international projects in agriculture and agroforestry. This includes soil fertility assessments and soil conservation, scientific planning and realization of sampling campaigns, on-site trainings, emission reduction projects and methodology development and carbon balances in agroecosystems. The geographical focus is Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa, but he leads projects in Asia and Europe.
