SMI contributes to FAO soil sampling procedures

The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) has addressed the issue of soil carbon. The result is a protocol for measuring, monitoring, reporting and verifying soil organic carbon in agricultural landscapes. Our Research & Development colleague Dr Rainer Nerger was involved in the development of this protocol and is one of the authors.

This protocol is a significant step forward for soils around the world. It provides recommendations for those who want to measure, monitor, report and verify sequestration of organic carbon (SOC) at farm level.

FAO has made the protocol publicly available free of charge. You can download your copy here.
