GLS study on sustainability risks

For GLS Bank, we evaluated, modelled and monetised sustainability risks for German agriculture.

The bank published the results at its annual press conference on 1 February 2021. The background to the study is that economic risks are also increasingly arising from environmental factors such as climate change and species extinction. GLS Bank therefore believes that it is important to refer to these factors in corporate risk management.

In order to establish comparability, we have monetarised the sustainability risks. This allows them to be compared transparently with other risks. In this way, we were able to show that we should not miss the opportunity to deal with these risks thoroughly and in good time. Otherwise, there is a risk of consequences not only for agriculture, but also for the institutions financing agriculture and for society.
